He is the founder and the present chairman of Laxmi Netralaya. After completing his postgraduate training in Ophthalmology, he went ahead with the cataract surgery fellowship at Aravind Eye Hospital, Madurai in the year 1993. After coming back from Madurai, he started implanting intraocular lenses in cataract surgery. He was amongst the few surgeons in Bihar at those times to do lens implantation in cataract surgery. After serving the government of Bihar for 18 years, he took voluntary retirement and stepped down from the post of District blindness officer, in Patna. Later he trained himself in phaco-emulsification and was at the forefront of the fraternity to provide this facility in Bihar. It was for the first time that people of the Sahabad region were offered Phacoemulsification cataract surgery.
He is an active member of many professional ophthalmological societies like All India Ophthalmological Society, Bihar Ophthalmological Society, and Delhi Ophthalmological Society.
He has earned several awards not just in the field of ophthalmology but in social commitments too. He is a very active member of Rotary International and has been conducting various free eye camps for the last 30 years in Ara and Buxar districts. He was named in the list of the top 100 most influential people in the state of Bihar in the year 2009 by Hindustan. He is also known for his research in the field of congenital eye abnormalities in small babies which attracted nationwide attention.
